3rd Grade

The third grade music program focuses on learning to play our first wind instrument, the recorder.  We continue to develop music literacy skills and expand our repertoire of songs. 

Third grade students will:

• Read, write, create, derive and perform songs using the notes la-sol-mi-re-do.

• Learn to read notes on the music staff using both letter names (A, B, C, ect.) and melody names (do, re, mi)

• Read, write, create, derive and perform songs with half note (too), half rest, quarter note (ta), eighth notes (ti-ti), and quarter rest.

• Sing age appropriate songs from memory.

• Play singing games from cultures around the world.

• Use a variety of percussion instruments such as drums, shakers and xylophones in addition to developing their skills on the recorder.
