4th Grade

The fourth grade music program is full of new challenges and more complex music.  We work with harmony and form and classes incorporate more student choice.

Fourth grade students will:

  • Read, write, create, derive and perform songs with sixteenth notes (tiri-tiri), syncopated and dotted notes, half notes (too), quarter notes (ta), eighth notes (ti-ti), and quarter rest rhythms.

  • Read, write, create, derive and perform songs using the pentatonic and major scale.

  • Sing age appropriate songs from memory.

  • Play singing games from cultures around the world.

  • Learn 4 chords on the ukulele and play several strumming patterns.

  • Use a variety of percussion instruments such as drums, shakers and xylophones as well as continue our studies of the recorder. 

  • Study various styles of music such as the blues and jazz.
